WHEN LIFE SHAKES, STAND FIRM ON THE ROCK

Home / Articles / WHEN LIFE SHAKES, STAND FIRM ON THE ROCK

Life sometimes brings seasons of fear, pain, uncertainty, and loss. In such times, we yearn for someone or something unshakable to hold on to. Scripture speaks of a Rock, not just any rock, but an immovable, unbreakable, and faithful one: Jesus Christ.

Just like a rock in the natural world gives shelter, stability, and safety, Christ is our sure foundation when everything around us feels unstable. He is the One we can run to when we are overwhelmed. The storms of life may blow, but those who stand on this Rock remain firm.

We see this Rock even in the Old Testament, where water flowed from Him to sustain the thirsty in the desert, a foreshadowing of Christ, the source of our living water today. The One who laid the solid foundation of our faith, Jesus Christ: for no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ, I write to encourage you to keep tight in the faith we have found in Him. In trying times, there is a Rock upon whom we can securely lay our rest.

Journey with me, as we briefly explore the biblical patterns and spiritual truths that help us navigate the difficult “limes” of life, moments that press and “squeeze” us. In a trying time, your faith must stand firm.

Who listens to you when you’re in trouble? Who shares in your pain? Sometimes, it feels as though the world exists only to burden us. As if that’s not enough, the clouds of temptation gather, and then the rains of trials begin to fall. Your spiritual life, academic life, finances, marriage, or health may feel like a mountain whose peak is hidden. But, beloved in Christ, amidst the turbulence of pain and the pressures of this fleeting world, there is a Rock, not only to lean on but to anchor our very being. He strengthens, He sustains, and He does it again and again.

Your trust, your faith, your prayers, and your fasting will keep you rooted in the Chief Cornerstone, the Rock. He is our spiritual anchor, our sure foundation, and our immovable hope. As Psalm 62:6 declares, “He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my defence; I shall not be moved.” And when time feels like it’s running out, when strength fails and the pressures of life seem too much, cry out as the psalmist did: “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2).

Dear one, hard and difficult times may come. Easy and joyful moments will also pass through. But whatever season we find ourselves in, our faith must not weaken, for God never goes back on His promise. He gives grace to each according to His riches, and He remains faithful to the end. He only is our Rock and Salvation. He is our defence. We shall not be moved!

Like the songwriter, “ON CHRIST THE SOLID ROCK I STAND ALL OTHER GROUND IS SINKING SAND” hold on fast the faith we have even unto the end. When life shakes, stand firm on the Rock.
