The heartbeat of Apostolic doctrine has always been the anticipation of Christ’s return and the final consummation of all things. Eschatology, the study of the end times, is not merely a theological concept to be discussed; it is a life-altering truth that shapes how we live, serve, and prepare.
For those of us who call ourselves Apostolic and profess a firm belief in Christ’s imminent return, it is time to ask: do our lives reflect the urgency and reality of eternity?
Having eternity in view means living each day with the awareness that this world is not our home. It means anchoring our hopes not in earthly accomplishments, material gain, or fleeting status, but in the coming of the King and the promise of eternal life. Sadly, a spiritual slumber has crept into many corners of the Apostolic movement. While our lips affirm the Second Coming, our lives often reflect a preoccupation with the temporal and a neglect of the eternal. Jesus warned in Matthew 24:42, Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. This is not a call to panic, but to readiness.
The Apostolic Church was birthed in power and passion, with heaven in sight and souls at heart. But somewhere along the way, distractions, worldliness, and complacency have threatened to dim the urgency of our calling. Eternity is not just about future eventsits about present living. How we pray, serve, forgive, give, and witness should all be shaped by the awareness that Christ will return. Paul said in Romans 13:11, It is high time to awake out of sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. If we truly believe in eschatology, our pulpits must preach more than comfort they must call for repentance, holy living, and readiness.
The early Apostolics turned the world upside down because they lived as those seeking a better country (Hebrews 11:16). They endured persecution with joy, gave sacrificially, and warned others to flee from the wrath to come. They didnt just believe in the endthey lived for it. Today, the church needs a wake-up call. We need to re-align our focus from building empires on earth to preparing souls for heaven. We need to return to fervent prayer, bold evangelism, sound doctrine, and deep consecration. Our churches must once again be places where eternity is real, the cross is central, and the Spirit is welcomed.
Let us not be found like the five foolish virgins who had lamps but no oil when the Bridegroom came (Matthew 25:113). Let us be found faithful, burning with purpose, living with eternity in view. This is not a time to be distractedit is a time to awaken. The King is coming.
Eternity is real. Let every Apostolic rise to the call: Live ready, preach boldly, and never lose sight of the eternal.
