Occupy Till I Come: Living Purposefully in the Waiting

When Jesus said, “Occupy till I come” (Luke 19:13), He gave more than a command; He actually entrusted a calling. These words remind us that waiting on the Lord is not passive; it is purposeful. Every believer has a space to fill, a gift to steward, and a responsibility to advance the Kingdom wherever they are planted.

At one of the  APOSA Campmeetings themed “Occupy Till I Come,” the President of The Apostolic Church-Ghana, Apostle Dr. Aaron Nartey Ami-Narh whom I will reference a lot in this piece, offered a profound reminder; He stated: “Whatever position you are holding whether you are a pastor, member, worker, or even a student; it is not to occupy space; there is work to be done.” His words reaffirm the heart of Jesus’ command. The Kingdom of God has no room for spectators; it calls for stewards- men and women who turn opportunities into impact and gifts into service.

To occupy is to stay fruitful and faithful with what has been entrusted to us. It means showing up with excellence, consistency, and conviction, not only within the church but across every sphere of life. In our generation, purpose has extended into classrooms, offices, studios, and digital spaces. The platforms we engage with daily have become vital avenues for witnesses. They are not distractions from ministry; they are expressions of ministry.

Apostle Ami-Narh further emphasized that “the level of your fruitfulness does not depend only on what was given to you, but on what God has placed in you.” Meaning every believer carries divine potential waiting to be activated. Our limitations are never in our resources but in our willingness to respond to God’s call. To “occupy” is, therefore, to recognize that the grace within us is greater than the circumstances around us. We are not waiting for perfect conditions; we are called to work faithfully with what we have, trusting that God has already deposited enough within us to make a difference.

In this digital era, “occupying” also means shining Christ’s light in conversations that shape culture and using technology as a tool for truth. Every message or creative idea inspired by faith becomes a seed of influence that can reach souls far beyond our immediate reach. The Kingdom’s advance in this age depends on believers who will carry Christ’s presence into the online world with authenticity, wisdom, and purpose.

It is important to note that the Kingdom has patience for repentance and growth, and not for wastage. God gives us time not to be idle but to grow to refine our gifts, deepen our convictions, and mature in our service. Every season is an opportunity for multiplication. To waste it is to miss the chance to partner with Heaven’s agenda.

To live purposefully in the waiting is to make every moment count. We wait best when we work well, when our faith shows in our diligence, our creativity reflects our convictions, and our influence points others to Christ.

So, occupy your space with purpose. Be diligent in your calling, faithful in your witness, and creative in your expression. Let your life, both offline and online, reflect the heartbeat of a servant who knows that the Master’s return is certain.

Because when He comes, He will not only ask if we waited, but He will also ask how we worked while waiting.
