R&B: BECOMING WHAT YOU RECEIVE

At the mention of “R & B,” entertainment minds go straight to the music genre, Rhythm and Blues. But this isn’t about music, this is a spiritual re-sounding call to every believer, especially this current generation, to intentional growth after a divine encounter.

This reflection stirred me after listening to a message preached by the General Secretary of The Apostolic Church-Ghana, Apostle Alex Boateng, during the 2025 Ordination Ceremony held at the Resource Centre in Fafraha, Accra. I acknowledge and deeply credit him for this piece. His message was titled, R&B (Receiving and Becoming). And from the very first listen, my spirit was awakened.

He said something profound:

“Receiving the oil is just the beginning. The true journey is becoming what the oil signifies.”
That line rested gently in my spirit, but its weight was undeniable, and I began to ask, How do we become what we have received?

In our Christian walk, receiving an anointing, a promotion, a prophecy, or even a divine call is not the conclusion. It is only the beginning. Many receive, but few truly become. God may deposit grace, release oil, or speak identity over us, but the responsibility to become lies with us. We are called to walk it out, live it daily, and grow into what has been declared

Abraham is a perfect example. He received the promise of becoming the father of many nations, but he did not step into it immediately. Scripture tells us that he had to become fully persuaded through faith, endurance, and obedience (Romans 4:16–21). In the same way, Sarah also received a word from God, yet it was only by faith that she was strengthened to conceive (Hebrews 11:11). The promise was given, but they had to grow into it.

What you receive is a seed, but what you become is the fruit.

We live in a time where many are flooded with prophecies, positions, and platforms, yet struggle to manifest the character, fruitfulness, and maturity that these require. The truth is that we often fail to become what we have received because we do not believe deeply enough to walk it out. Faith is not passive. It is a force that moves us from potential to purpose. You need the spirit of faith and intentionality to become.

You don’t become who you are meant to be through excitement or hype. True becoming comes through surrender, obedience, and inviting the Holy Spirit to shape your character, renew your mind, and prepare your hands for greater things. Whatever God has deposited in you, don’tjust hold it, become it. Don’t let your prophecy expire in your diary. Let it grow legs. Let it breathe. Let it become flesh. Because in this season, it’s not just about what you’ve received, it’s about who you’re becoming.
