“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets” – Hebrews 1:1 KJV
From the beginning, God has never relied on a single individual to accomplish His purposes. When Abel, the godly seed, was slain, God raised Seth to continue the divine lineage through which our Lord Jesus Christ would eventually come. In the same lineage, Enoch walked so closely with God that he was taken without seeing death. Alongside him, Noah heeded God’s warning and built the ark that saved his household. Both were righteous in their generation, demonstrating that God often raises multiple vessels simultaneously to fulfill His will.
This pattern continues throughout Scripture. Abraham was chosen as the father of faith, yet before his calling was fully realized, Melchizedek, king and priest of the Most High God, already ministered in righteousness. In Exodus, before Aaron or the Levitical priesthood was established, Jethro, a priest of Midian, served as God’s vessel, offering wisdom and guidance to Moses.
Even in the prophetic ministry, Moses was not alone. Balaam, though not an Israelite, was used by God to speak prophecies with his eyes open. Elijah, in a moment of despair, believed himself to be the only faithful voice left in Israel. But God revealed that He had reserved seven thousand who had not bowed to Baal.
In the book of Daniel, God used King Nebuchadnezzar, a pagan ruler, to reveal end-time visions of a great image and a towering tree. In the New Testament, Saul of Tarsus, once a persecutor of the church, became Paul the apostle, a pillar of the early church. His writings, alongside those of the other apostles, form the foundation of Christian doctrine today.
From the first century to the present, God’s work has been carried forward by men and women from diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds, each with a unique instrument in their hands.
No single person or denomination holds a monopoly on God’s truth—except Jesus Christ, the sole foundation of the Church. We are many members of one body, many rooms in one building. Just as a kitchen, bedroom, and living room serve different functions yet make a house complete, so each believer and ministry has a vital role in the Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit provides the blueprint through God’s Word, which we are called to obey together.
God is never without options. His methods are multifaceted, His resources limitless. Let us not confine Him with our pride, prejudice, or narrow perspectives. Absolute truth resides in Christ alone, not in human hands. We are a diverse people, gifted uniquely for the common good.
May the Spirit grant us vision to see His will, wisdom to learn from His past works, and faith to walk obediently into His future.
