The youth are not merely the future of the nation; they are God’s heritage entrusted to us today. Scripture declares in Psalm 127:3-4, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.” This truth reminds us that young people are gifts from God—arrows meant to be sharpened, aimed, and released into His purpose. They are not accidents of history but lives entrusted to us with divine potential and purpose.
The Word of God instructs us in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Training is not passive; it requires deliberate investment of time, prayer, instruction, discipline, and godly counsel. To invest in the youth is to sow seeds of righteousness, faith, wisdom, and character into their lives.
Education is important, but without the fear of the Lord, knowledge alone cannot provide the foundation needed for a meaningful life. Mentorship is vital, but without Christ at the centre, guidance can lack eternal direction. True investment in young people must therefore be Christ-centred, shaping them to become disciples, leaders, servants, and witnesses of God’s Kingdom.
When we train young people in God’s ways, we are not merely preparing them for careers or social responsibilities; we are equipping them to stand as lights in a dark world. Like arrows, they must be sharpened by the Word of God, guided by the Holy Spirit, and released into the world with confidence in Christ.
A generation that is intentionally discipled and grounded in God’s Word can become a powerful spiritual legacy. Godly young people can become intercessors, evangelists, leaders, innovators, and witnesses who carry the Gospel into their schools, workplaces, communities, and digital spaces. When they are rooted in Scripture, prayer, and godly relationships, they are better equipped to recognise and resist the distractions and temptations of their generation.
The Church and the nation must therefore see young people not as burdens but as blessings—God’s heritage and arrows for His Kingdom. Neglecting them is not merely a social failure; it can also become a form of spiritual negligence. When we fail to invest in them, we risk leaving a generation vulnerable to influences that can shape their values, identity, and future.
However, when we pour into young people through the Word of God, prayer, discipleship, mentorship, and meaningful opportunities to serve, we help prepare them to become faithful stewards of the future God has entrusted to them.
As we celebrate National Youth Week, let us recommit ourselves to this responsibility. Parents, pastors, teachers, and leaders must rise to the call of training and equipping the youth in the fear of the Lord. Let us invest our time, resources, wisdom, prayers, and opportunities in them. Let us sharpen the arrows, aim them toward God’s purpose, and release them into the world as confident ambassadors of Christ.
The question is not whether the next generation will be influenced. They will be. The question is who will shape them and what will they be shaped for?
May we faithfully invest in them today so that, tomorrow, they will carry the light of Christ into places we may never reach.
